INTERNATIONAL SERVICE AND ROTARY FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT RY 2024-25



ADOPT AN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IN KENYA at Bungoma County Referral Hospital (429km northwest of the capital Nairobi): successfully upgraded the ED infrastructure in July 2024, provided essential medical equipment and enhanced the skills and knowledge of healthcare providers. The Rotary “magic wand” was waved in cooperation with the local County Government and Project Partner Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation (EMKF) via funding assistance from Rotary Club of Balwyn’s Centenary grant of $50,000, donation from Rotary Club of Gloucester and medical equipment support from DAK Foundation. The Emergency department sees 275,000 patients annually. Bungoma County Referral Hospital Emergency Department now stands as a model ED for the region, aligning with national policies and guidelines for emergency medical care. This project has significantly strengthened the hospital's capacity to deliver high-quality, efficient, and safe emergency medical care, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for the community.
